History

Created by Imagine Swimming founders Casey Barrett and Lars Merseburg, and guided by Makos Head Coach Elliot Ptasnik, the Makos took to the chlorinated seas of the city in January 2007. Young sharks with smiles and a need for speed, they were Imagine Swimming's first generation of young racers - most of whom had learned to swim in Imagine pools years before. After two years, hundreds of practices, and their first meet, Imagine Invite, it was time to take the next step. In May 2009, the squad became a nationally registered Club Team with USA Swimming. Since then, the Makos quickly produced some of the country’s top aquatic athletes, including Junior Olympic champions, Metro Zone Team members, Senior Met Qualifiers, National Top-10 ranked swimmers, and most importantly…many, many smiles and laughs.

Now the path to aquatic excellence has been paved for every Imagine swimmer. From learn-to-swim lessons to full immersion daily workouts, led by the city's most accomplished world-class swimmers, the Makos take Imagine Swimming to the next and highest level...
