Makos Coaches


Elliot Ptasnik

Elliot has been Head Coach of the Makos since March 2009, when the team first registered with USA Swimming, and has produced some of the country’s top athletes. In three years time, he has guided Junior Olympic and Eastern Zone champions, Metropolitan LSC and Eastern Zone record breakers and Sectional and NCSA Junior National qualifiers.

A student of the sport, he brings an unparalleled passion for the sport to the pool deck each day. Elliot is on the cutting edge of stroke evolution, biomechanical analysis and innovative training methods through frequent communication with a wide assortment of National coaches and Olympic swimmers. His coaching inspirations include James "Doc" Counsilman, Jon Urbanchek and Bob Gillett. Elliot is a certified ASCA Level 3 Coach, three-time Metropolitan Zone Coach and Chairman of Metropolitan’s Diversity Swim Program.

Prior to the Makos, Elliot served as Assistant Coach of the Iowa City Eels Swim Club, working with the senior training group. As an athlete, Elliot was a Hawkeye at the University of Iowa competing in breaststroke, IM and freestyle. At Iowa he earned a BBA in Finance with Honors, Academic All-Big Ten student-athlete and was awarded the Iowa Swimming Jim Marshall Award.
